I've always maintained that the Audi Cup is probably the most prestigious european cup going.

I think Maguire is a leader and proven in the PL.. I thought he was pretty damn good at the world cup also..
80m is a lot but you have to add 20-30m on for him being English.. Everyone thought Liverpool were ****** for paying 75m for a defender.. so I am reasonably hopeful with the signing lol
As for Arsenal maybe Pepe is some amazing player.. never heard of him before.. idk how hard it is to look good in the French league tho

Man United got robbed blind by Leicester.
Even in this market he’s probably worth £55-60m MAX.
Good player no doubt but another typical example of an overpriced English and premier league player.

United wanted Maguire and they cheaped out last year and got scared. Silly really because they’re made of money and they bought a 5’3 Brazilian bum for £55 mil.
Compared to the absolute dross they’ve bought even though they’ve overpaid it’s a no brainier. He’s their best defender the moment he steps through the door. Potential captain material. A voice.
Liverpool have shown you just get the ones you want. Overpay if you have too.
Keita doesn’t look all that yet and Liverpool have even loaned him back but he’s the one they wanted. I think if you get the top picks the conditions are there to succeed. Liverpool will give him time.
Do you think Harry Maguire will be a failure at United?
No. He’s not is he? Doesn’t matter what they paid for him.Last edited by Sparked_26; 08-02-2019, 01:33 PM.

I don't think he'll out and out fail at United but I feel he simply won't ever live up to that price tag because only a top 5 centre back in the world could.
Yes he's an upgrade on what they have but that's not saying much because outside of Lindelof who came good last season their centre backs are pretty underwhelming to say the least.
They could've got Alderweireld for £25m before his release clause expired last week. Now that's a proven world class centre back for a fraction of the price. Ok he's 30 y/o but he played 50 games last season, safe to say he has at least another 2 years at the top, by which time they could be back in the CL, challenging for the title with the chance to buy a genuine top draw centre back in their prime.
Also, someone like Nathan Ake would be an upgrade on Smalling and Jones for half the price of Maguire.
I think at a top club like United with massive expectations he'll do pretty well but i'd be amazed if he's a game changing centre back like Van Dijk or to a lesser extent Laporte. Maybe it's harsh to compare him to those guys but they recently went for big fees to premier league rivals so that's the benchmark as far as i'm concerned.

As for Maguire, his true value is lower than what United is gonna pay, but with the revenue sharing in the PL teams are not gonna sell good players unless the offer is substantial. So the high tag on him makes sense to me.
