This ref though for the Chelsea palace game is soft. Alonso bodied cabaye and then steamrolled another in the box like old fashion English football and calls foul when both incedents were accidental in nature.

that ref goes to show how nobody wants to be a ref. He ruined that game from the first to the last second by blowing for any contact at all from both sides. If you had more than a handful of that kind of ref you'd kill the whole league.

If someone feels for contact and then goes down - say if they are trying to shepherd a ball out for a throw in or corner, goal kick or whatever - for me that is free game you should be able to do anything to play the ball because they aren't playing the ball. It is like the football equivalent of turning your back in boxing or something.

If one guy jumps for a header and the other doesn't. There is simply no way that can be a free kick against the guy actually trying.

Palace realised they had a dud ref early and as such their only tactic was launch the ball to Benteke who wouldn't jump but feel for contact and appeal and get a free kick. Referees could be given help and it could be black and white unless - if you are backtracking and don't jump - foul!

Chelsea are good to be fair.

Teams can either decide to lose in a good game where there might be some give and take or they can lose in a sh.it game in which they do the equivalent of cover themselves in bubble wrap and let us gently kick the s.hit out of them.

They're just taking the boring option at the minute. It's up to them.
