Where do people get these ridiculous calculations from? "He's worth this many points a season". Just a complete platitude really.

Cech is a obviously a good goalkeeper but he also had an organised defence and midfield shielding in front of him for most of his time at Chelsea.

If Cech is Arsenal's Marquee signing in this summer transfer window, we aren't getting a sniff of the Premier League title. It's laughable that people have bought into this +12 points BS that Cech will supposedly bring.

Simple really if a player hits a winner that won a game his contribution is quite literally worth 3 points. If he hits a winner in a game that would be draw there is 2 points.

If a keeper makes a save that is so good it is practically worth a goal and thus worth points.

Not a newfangled thing. In a game as low scoring as football you can define the players who win you points quite easily, IMO.

Remy won us 7 points with his goals. Conservatively, I would say Cech is worth 10 points a season. I didn't say 10 more points.

I accept Dirk's point about Chesney and Ospina. Neither are awful goalkeepers so the different won't turn Arsenal into title winner by itself.

It doesn't work that way though because you can't say that another goalie wouldn't have made that save.

It's something that sounds nice when commenting on how good a goalie is but it's not accurate at all.

You definitely can, IMO.

I reckon Hilario quite literally cost Chelsea points.

It is why teams now have keepers of a similar standard. Reserve keepers used to be nowhere near.

We had to play Ross Turnbull against Inter Milan once. It is not just the actual saves but also the impact it has on a back 4 having a bum like Hilario in goal.

Well yeah.

Hence why if Arsenal signed Ronaldo they would win the league because he would earn them more points.

Obviously it is not flawless as you can't define how many points Matic is worth or JT.

But with the players who put the ball in the net and the ones who keep it out - you can quantify their contributions into points, IMO.Which is why there is an argument that goalie is THE undervalued position.
