Darwinism is not "Only the strongest survive". It's survival of the fittest. In this context "fittest" means most able to reproduce. It is the selection (by extinction) against traits which are either detrimental or not helpful towards the securing of mates and the reproduction of offspring.

Altruism and social interaction is a prediction of darwinist evolution - human beings are pretty crappy as individuals. They aren't fast, they aren't strong, they're not terribly agile, they don't have claws... In other words we're easy food for any predator and easy to avoid for any prey. But humans have social interaction, language and an intellect which has allowed the development of tools. The ability to cooperate and the instinct to help other members of society are just as much a survival trait as big sharp teeth are in lions.
