I chose skin pigmentation because it is the closest thing (if we are discussing hereditary genetics) to society's attitude toward *******uality. If genetically gay people are hardwired and predisposed to a certain behaviour, can we still blame the individual for their consentual actions with other individuals with the same predispositions because we think it' "icky"? Much in the same way skin pigmentation is not a choice, if we discuss *******uality as genetic I think the analogy in broad terms is apt. "Separate but equal", that once described skin pigmentation as well...

If we are talking about behaviour, I think it is no longer a scientific discussion. Just to steer the question toward another idea, what if scientists discover a "straight gene" which they can manipulate to a "bi***ual gene". Problem solved? I doubt any anti-gay advocates would endorse such an idea simply because it would seem to cycle back to "but it's icky".

I have to admit it seems to turn into that with piggy. I don't understand the comparison either.

I ask the question again but people keep ignoring me, if they can let's say in the future identify a gene that contributes to *******uality, would you be in favor of a "cure"?

This is hypothetical because we don't know for sure what will be discovered in the future even though some seem to have all the answers right now.

Ultimately there is nothing actually wrong with *******uality, only how we as a society treat *******uals. I wouldn't want my son or daughter to be gay... not because of a lifestyle choice or my own feelings towards them, but to spare them societies bigotry. That's the "cure" we should be looking for.

People have a real, real, real hard time noticing their own prejudices. I know I carry some and the best I can do is hope to minimize my outward actions.

People often equate being black with being ****** trash, talking gangsterlicious like, and smoking crack. Those are all choices yet become associated with being black in many instances. Rampant ass play with strange individuals, loud and obnoxious, or very flamboyant are things people often associate with *******uals.

If the ability to reproduce is valued, then I'd say all of the people who choose not to have kids are worthless. As a species we're beyond simply surviving so reproduction is completely meaningless to many people... unfortunately many parents of posters in this thread should have felt that way.
