The context makes it clear that he said "be." If you watch more of the video, the context makes it crystal clear.

They may not be lying about what they believe they heard, but they are certainly lying about what he said.

So now anytime they do or say anything offensive or inappropriate "it's just a joke".

I have no argument he was trying to say 'be', whether he slipped up is the argument, which I think he did..... it sounds like he said 'beat', context is irrelevant.

Then we can agree to disagree. Say "Be Joe *****" yourself and try to make it sound any different from what he said.

Again, the context makes it very clear what he said.

As was stated in the link I posted, the transcript of the conversation also quoted him as saying "be," while acknowledging that phonetically it sounds similar. That's why context is important.

Not only that, but the transcript prepared by CNBC quotes ***** as saying he is "going to be Joe *****," not "going to beat Joe *****." News reports from the Associated Press and the New York Times also quoted ***** in that way.

If you say 'be' and 'beat' back-to-back it's hard to tell them apart...... if he did make it sound beat it's an easy mistake to make...... I slip up speaking often, no big deal but it makes a funny meme due to his other constant ****** mistakes.

Certainly agree with that! Which is why I had to look into it. I thought...can this be real? I mean he has been all over the place at times...but if that one just went by with him not even correcting himself....I'd seriously have to consider staying at home when it's time to vote

If I would have heard it during the actual interview, I wouldn't have thought anything of it. But reading the misquote at the same time as listening did give the impression that it could have been what he said.

There is no spinning what ***** says. Either he meant it or not, he mis-spoke or simply forgot he comes out of his mouth with conviction.

There is a reason ***** never let him talk in public and took so long to endorse him.

I check out most things..... especially with the news outlets nowadays..... it's easy to take sound bites and run with it. Not many people watch all the interview or conferences etc I certainly do not think ***** ****ed up bad here but it did sound like 'beat' to me...... I'm Scottish so I probably wouldn't be understood at all in America lol

Even if he did say it as a joke, it would still not be the best idea for a presidential candidate relying on Black voter turnout to say it
