which is better the fat or the slim? also what other thinks should i check on the ps3 before i buy one? for example is there a way to know which one to get so you dont get that light of death

Doesn't matter besides aesthetics really. Flat matte slim, gloss shiny fat. Slims have buttons on the console to start it. Fat ones are touch activated. Also, slims typically have more memory but that doesn't really matter. As I doubt you'll use over 80gb of data.
You should go for a bundle to be honest. They dropped the ps3 price to $250. Gamestop runs Killzone3 or Black Ops bundles for $250. So you do the math.

You waited this long why not buy a new Playstation 4 two years from now?
Seriously, Xbox is coming out a new one next year.
I definitely think Sony is going to come out a new one too. They don't want to let Xbox to get the lead again in the console race like last time.
Or if you just like old consoles then buy the slim one it has a bigger hard drive and I think the WiFi is better with it than the fat one.
