Final Fantasy: Which did you find to be the best one?

FFVII hands down and far and away. It looked so amazing for a PS game (though VIII and VIII topped it graphically eventually) and was such a huge and open game. The combat and magic system was awesome, the setting was great and it had a massive moment when Aeris got killed by Sepiroth (highlight to see spoilers) marking it as a bit of a first when it comes to the emotional impact of video games.

It's seminal.

FFX is nothing like as good a game, though I would certainly be up for a foursome with Yuna, Lulu and Rikku.

She had to die. Her limit breaks were the best in the game.

IV was a personal favorite of mine, but objectively speaking it's likely between VI or VII. VII was more flawed than VI, but also somewhat more innovative, and I like it more as it was really unprecedented at the time. Anyone saying VIII or X is an utter fool, and most people saying VII (which is basically my pick) are kids or horrendously biased due to fond memories. Honestly I can't imagine perceiving it nearly as well if you didn't play it at the time it was released, having experienced what came before.

Almost no old school guy will pick VII over VI, which should be evidence enough of my objectivity.

I know maybe one guy who will say that, and he's the type obsessed with the combat system and mechanics of combat, placing much more emphasis on that than anything else. So if you're saying that for the same reason, you're probably more of a FF Tactics/strategy RPG guy in the first place.

Pretty sure that's one that's been translated for ages, but you're telling me you got through the entire game without understanding any of what was going on? What about those times when you have to backtrack and grab certain items, or talk to certain people, etc.? No way.
