How come game consoles now are so unstable compared to earlier consoles?

I mean now you have to worry about Red ring of death (360) and Yellow light of death (PS3) when earlier consoles you did not have to worry **** except for dust in the cartridges which you can easily restore by blowing into them.

I mean a Gameboy can survive a bombing in the civil war, yet now Consoles easily break in less then 6 months?

I got 1 xbox 360 that got a redlight and a Ps3 with yellow light just this month >.<

lol this is so true. My first Xbox (xbox 1) lasted like 2 years and my first ps3 ( 60gb version) lasted 3 years... Funny thing , my old ass Sega Genesis i have since 95 still works.

Because the earlier consoles didn't have moving parts.

Easy question, gaming companies don't give a **** about the product they're selling you today.

They'll put a glitch filled, bug infested game out there to play with your fragile, gimmick created console. It MIGHT just break on you but hey.. atleast you did get to fart around with PS Move and Kinect for all of 5 minutes looking like an asshole

I say **** that, bring back the early 90s console and the Sonic games. They might have been simple but ATLEAST they worked when you needed them the most.

Older consoles were glitchy and just as prone to breaking as their modern counterparts. You're simply looking at things through the glasses of nostalgia.

i think the problem is people dont know how to take care of their consoles

i've had my ps3 since it came out(i think 2006) still works perfectly

how long till you change computers TS?

The other factor is related to the spread of information. You bought an NES in 1985 and it breaks down in three weeks, what do you do? Take it back to the store, get a replacement and carry on. You get an Xbox 360 in 2005 and it breaks down in three weeks what do you do? You go online to forums and bitch about it, finding dozens of other people complaining of the same thing, it becomes a news story for networks struggling to fill 24 hours with novel coverage and suddenly a few failing Xboxes becomes the lead "tech news" item that week...

Ive never had any problem with any of my previous game consoles except for cleaning the cartridges themselves all the way back to sega/nes.

I always had a decent computer which was built around 2004, but I just bought a new one just the heck of it but without all the major gaming updates since I dont plan on playing PC games like I use to. Right now I only play League of Legends which dont need much to run.
