No, you have to clear your xbox cache. Basically you go into the maintenance section and clear the Xbox cache under "storage device" and it'll work fine.

I can't remember all the steps, I did it via Xbox.com, it's a bit annoying as you have to redownload your game updates when you play them but it's really only a minor irritation.

I've had that problem a couple of times. Only console I got is the Xbox but honestly the xbox itself is a piece of shit.

Xbox live is great, the games is great but the console is a frail as hell always acting up not reading disc and even gives you that red ring of bull****.

I've had problems with both the PS3 and Xbox, and rather than get involved in the "this console sucks, this other one is awesome" game, I usually try to find out as much as i can about them and how to fix them.

To me it sounds like a dirty lens. DVDs tend to be a little easier to read, and a little more forgiving for small specks of dirt, or when you accidentally put in a game with Jelly on it (don't ask).

Get knowed up on how to properly clean a lense (q-tip and rubbing alcohol is my prefered method).

Disasemble the xbox, clean the lense and you'll probably be fine.

Unless your xbox is under warrenty, Then just send it in, don't void the warrenty if you don't have to.

It'snot the lense, it's a software problem. If he takes my suggestion it fixes the problem.

I had a friend who would just **** his box, and he's seen all these problems. what happened to him was that he fried his video card or some ****, so it was no longer able to play the games, but it played his dvd's fine. Since his **** wasn't showing the red ring, he could get it fixed for free, but he found a smart way around it. He just played dvd after dvd til the red ring of death came on and got it fixed for free..

                    hope this helps
