[PLEASE HELP] What are your recommended video-card brands?

I have an xfx geforce 8800gts 320mb card that has never really been a problem to me and I never had to get it replaced. But what video card brands have no problem replacing video cards if you have problems with them?

Oh yeah, I have overclocked my video card several times and it has frozen the pc games in the past. Never hurt my video card once from what I could tell, but I stopped overclocking it because I didn't want to keep messing with it. But I have to say I probably did this 10 times and my video card was still fine.

I'm thinking of buying a gtx470 when I have the money for it, but I have to make sure I get the right brand. Does a brand matter for video cards?

Nvidia or ATI. Probably the two best companies which make video cards. I prefer ATI though.

That didn't really have anything to do with my question.

And that 3d looks so ****** by the screenshots. Why would I want to see someting in 3d with purplish, reddish, bluish colors? I rather see things in 3d like how disney world does their 3d when you wear those special glasses they give you.

All the early 470/480s youll find are goning to be reference designs Im pretty sure which means they are all going to be shipped from nvidia to the various vendors who put them in a box brand them.

XFX is not carrying GTX470/480s at this time but they have a double lifetime warranty so alot of people but xfx, I think they may be available at a later time.

            You got
            EVGA
            MSI
            ASUS
            ZOTAC
            GALAXY
            PNY

At this point your not going to find much difference aside from warranty and whats included in the box (I think EVGA comes with a tshirt ).

That being said I would tell you to not buy a GTX470 or 480

They are overpriced because there are so few of them and nvidia is having problems manufacturing the chips.

Grab a 5850 (299$) or 5870($399). The 5850 is on par with the 470 and 5870 is on par with the 480 with less heat and noise also lower power requirements. You can always overclock the 5850 and since they have been out for a while there are non reference cards already overclocked with better cooling available. But they cost more.

I went with a Sapphire 5850 a few months ago got it for 255$ with a rebate. Am happy with it and can always add another one and do crossfire.

How many watts is your power supply? I think the GTX470/480s require a 600 watt.

My watts is 600, and the 470 only requires 550wats max. And Nvidia is the best because Ati is so ******ed they don't even support Physx in games. Do you know how much better Batman Arkham Asylum looks with Physx then without it? And I don't think 350-400 bucks for a good Nvidia card is expensive. Isn't that actually fairly cheap for new video cards?

If physx is a priority then you should stick with nvidia, but you could also just use your old card as a dedicated physx card if you went ATI. And I have a 9800gt in my laptop so I know Batman looks good with physx.

Also FYI I think PNY branded 470/480 cards have a lifetime warranty and saw some 470s in stock at newegg so maybe they would be a good choice.

And I actually do think 350 is a bit high for a mid range card but prices have gone crazy since Nvidia was late and there was no competition thats why I waited to find a really good deal I dont like spending more than MSRP. The 5850 and 470 should be around 250-275$. 480s are going for like 700+ on ebay its crazy.

Good luck with whatever choice you make Im sure youll be really happy either way.

Did you build your own pc?

No I didn't, I'm probably not getting the video card anytime soon even though I keep talking about it. My neighbor helps me build my computer, he puts the parts in I buy for it. I had an Amd Athlon 3500 in september, but in that same month I updated to an Amd Athlon II X2 250 Processor 3.01 ghz. It is much more powerful then my old amd athlon 3500, but I probably made a mistake getting this cpu even though its probably going to be good enough for the games currently out on the market and the games that come out for the next 2 yrs or so.

I just really need to update my 8800gts 320mb card. Also, I'm not sure if my 8800gts 320mb is strong enough to do that thing where I dedicate the 8800gts 320mb to physx only and buy an ati card for cheaper. I want to make sure my new computer ****s out Dead Rising 2 when it comes out for the pc. Also, I really need my pc to play Gta IV and Saints Row much better.

I think the Athlon II will be fine for a while at higher resolution like 1920x1080 its supposeldy more video card limited than cpu plus its a dual core. I ended up in a similar boat when I built my new system in Feb didnt set out to do a gaming system so went with a Athlon II X4 shoulda gone with a phenom but overclocked it to 3.2ghz and with the 5850 am able to play games at max settings like metro 2033 and just cause 2 so am happy so far. Now the phenom II X6 is coming out in a few weeks. Cool thing is they will be compatible with the same socket as the phenoms and athlon IIs so you can always upgrade later.

Since you have an 8800gts with 320 you really cant go wrong on an upgrade. the 320 mb is really limiting you. For example a 5770 for around 150$ will pretty much double your frame rates ( I know you dont want an ati card but just mentioning it for comparison). Even if you grabbed a GTX260 or higher youd be good to go but just no directx 11 support. I heard the GTX460 will be coming out soon. Bottom line you cant go wrong with the video card upgrade from the 8800gts.
