Backbone controller?

Anyone on here have any experience with the backbone controller? I wanna get this for a gift for a family member..

so in order to play ps games, you need to actually own that game in order to play it correct?

so if i dont have a ps console and dont own any ps games, i cant play ps game with the controller?
