Would an American Football n00b like myself have any hope of getting to grips with this game quickly, or would it take quite a while?

Yes, you should have no problem getting to grips with it. Playing it is the easy part but understanding which formations to use is harder. But you can always have madden select plays for you to use and it gives you a breakdown of what you did wrong when a play doesn't work.

Best sports game ever by a mile.

One full season on franchise mode and I'll be ready to do some damage online.

Just gotta figure out how to playmaker my defenders, shade DBs, do proper hot routes, proper subs, get my audibes and playbook right...

One thing about the game, even though it's the greatest.

It pisses me off how buggy it is Online. My record is 37-17.............but at least six of my losses are from bull**** disconnects where it just says: "Session Ended" and I get awarded a loss. Also at times when someone goes to challenge a play, my game locks up at the replay screen and I'm forced to quit. It really sucks because I should have 10 losses at most.
