I gained 40 pounds in the past year after going on a new medicine. I have lost about 15 so far. I was thinking of trying a Ketogenic style diet to lose the rest since it says you can lose like a pound a day. Has anyone tried this before?

If you are boxing leave the low carb diets alone, that is where you get your energy from. You need to eat a certain amount of necessary carbs to fuel the anaerobic training. Eat whole grains, Fruits, and complex carbs like Yams. Cut out all of the White flour and Sugars, Definately step up the protienes And consume plenty of Vegies. Cut your calorie intake per serving, Split your meals up into about 4-5 a day. Nothing after 7pm and do some roadwork before brreakfast to kick start your metabolism. Drop the Calories per day to around 1200 for the firs couple of weeks, then increase of up to 1-2 hundered every couple of weeks thereafter. Stay under 1800 til you get to your ideal weight. Then you should be able to determine what and how much to eat to maintain that weight. NO FAD DIETS they are not meant for Athletes with the type of training combative and other power athletes need to maintain there competitave levels
Edit- I just realized who I was talking to, You change your avatar so often. I'm sure you know how to eat healthy buddy, I don't like those Fad diets. They may drop some fat quickly, but everybody who goes on them says it comes back just as fast if you deviate the plan.Last edited by KingDosia; 11-01-2006, 03:00 PM.

eat every 2-4 hours with good foods...meaning protien, carbs, good fats...and stick to organic foods...and exercise everyday whether its resistance training or cardio

Yeah I probably should avoid it all together so I don't gain the weight back. I will stick to healthy foods a exercise a little more.

the only thing the atkins diet is good for is making weight before a fight, i tried it once to see how much weight i would lose - i dropped 5 lbs of fat in about 3 days, but i think after a few more days i would have had a lot less energy

eh these different types of diets work on the margins.
NY TIMES did a study and found that ALL diets work, if you stick with them. some are slightly better or worse.
so ya ATKINS works (i can atest personally) but then again so did drastically reducing my overall caloric intake.

Diet
Those aren't bad, but i would also look into the Slow Carb Diet, as described by Tim Ferriss in his book the Four Hour Workweek...
Basically, dont eat anything white, eat a lot of beans, legumes, meat, etc
