When did your trainer first want you to spar?

On my fourth visit to the gym, which was yesterday,my trainer wanted me to spar an older smaller guy whos been going to the gym for 3 months but he still hasn't sparred yet. I couldn't because i didn't bring a mouthguard(never thought they'd want me to spar this early) I'm moving along quite quickly because ive been shadowboxing and hitting the bag for about a year before going to the gym so i can punch. Today i'm going again and i'll be bringing a mouthpiece. I have full confidence in my abilty to do better than him and ill give an update when i get back from the gym

one piece of advice, let your hands go.

you are in the ring to learn, but if you don't throw punches, you will not learn

Officially our trainers were not able to allow us to spar until our passports came back from USA Boxing which, took about a month. However, there were a few of us who would hang out after they left and would spar each other anyways.

Yesterday was my first time sparring and I've been training for 2 months. All we did was jab and cross, I got knocked around a bit but I was expecting it because the other guy had been a kickboxer before moving to boxing but he was kind enough to back off when i was getting pummeled. gonna try it again in a few weeks.
