    bodyshots

About 6 months ago a buddy and i were just messing around with no gloves so we figured only body shots. He got me in just the right spot and cut my splean in half. It was the worst pain i had ever felt it was like de la hoya vs. BHop. i just started training again and was wondering how to prevent this and how common it is. pretiate it

        Soldier up. Boxing hurts.

The best medicine is to learn how to throw -- and land -- those punches that really hurt. Unfortunately, the only way to find out what hurts is to have someone light you up. Then, once you learn how to bring pain -- and more to the point, once word gets around the gym that you can hit -- your sparring partners will start concentrating on not getting hit, which lessens the amount of punches that get thrown at you. A simple case of the best defense being a good offense, and all that.

I don't drive my punches hard in sparring but I try to land them accurately in places that make my opponent wince -- solar plexus, midline just above the belt, side of the neck (turn the knuckles way down and drive it at an angle), chin -- to let my sparring partner know that I COULD have ****ed him up had I wanted to.

There are only a couple of guys in my gym who like to spar at 75% or above; I've sparred one of them only once, and when he told the other guys after the workout, "Look out, this guy can hit," I found everyone taking a much more defensive attitude toward me and I found myself getting hit hard a lot less. Whether they're covering up more and taking less chances, or whether they don't want to go 100% for fear that I'll give it right back, either way works for me. I don't want to hurt anyone, but I want to be common knowledge that I can.

Tough it out. Learn from it.

I remember the second time I sparred, I got hit with 1 good body shot. This 1 hurt more than 20 head shots...
