Which Should I get for Home, Heavybag or Dumbell/Bench?

So I'm deciding which to buy, and I can only afford one right now. Either a nice everlast heavybag for home (i go to a gym 3 times a week, so its just supplementing that.) Or Powerblock Dumbells ().

I still have yet to really get a difinitive answer on if boxers should lift weights. Before I started boxing i lifted about 3 times a week, but i've cut back since alot of people on this board suggest against it. Im pretty skinny for my height though and I think I could afford to put on some more weight. Allthoguh I have a height advantage on people in my weight class.

I think the heavy bag would help me to develop my skills even more as im still a bit off a beginner in boxing. However I probably won't get much bigger from using this daily.

I wouldn't buy the heavybag since you alreayd have one at the gym.

      I'd buy the dumbells.

Many people still live in the dark ages about weight training. Some of the best athletes from different sports have come to realize the trmendous benefits of a regular weight training and a well planned nutritional program. Evander Holyfield is one who has used weight training/ strength conditioning for many years. Although no longer in his prime, Evander more than held his own against many bigger heavyweights, often knocking them out. The myths about becoming musclebound and inflexible have become a thing of the past. To develop speed, practice speed. To develop flexibility, practice flexibility. There are many skills required to be a top boxer, but for gaining strength and lean body mass, progressive weight training is unsurpassed. Good luck.

thats veryu true most boxers now lift weight i woud say probably all heavyweoghts do however, for some it has caused stamina problems.

after evander lifed for a while he was able to control much heavier opponents in the inside, the only oppent he face who appeared significantly stronger was foreman and he has 20" arms!

Holyfield was all heart. I read in an article...if Holyfield weighs in at 210 lbs...his heart weighs 205.

Plus, he started at I think age 9 so he's very skillful.

I'd be inclined to say the bag. However, if you're a beginner, hitting the bag without supervision, you might pick up some bad habits, that can be very hard to fix. Maybe you could ask your coach to give you certain "assignments" of things he feels you do adequatly? Or maybe give you some very specific pointers on which key elements to keep in mind, when you hit the bag at home. That way, it could be a really good thing.
