How has Boxing affected your Relationships?

I was watching the Contender last night and one of my favorite parts of the show is how they show all of the support and relationships the fighters have. They all have family members, wives or girlfriends who are extremely supportive of their dream. I'm still in highschool, and my ex-girlfriend thought boxing was ridiculously ******. My friends for the most part just think im doing it to get tough or learn how to fight. My parents are more understanding, especially my mom whose father was a pro fighter in asia. Anyways I wanted to see how boxing has affected the relationships of you all.

I'm fortunate enough to have a girlfriend who supports me boxing and gives me all the encouragement I need. She worries a lot when I have a fight coming up but she doesn't get in the way of what I have to do. She doesn't come to all of my fights but I can understand that.

My friends all have respect for me because of my boxing. And my parent offerd me plenty of support when I was starting out. So boxing on the whole has been quite positive for my relationships.

Boxing is looked upon as a "thug" sport in most peoples minds. That's the only thing that bugs me about boxing and human relationships. People don't realize about the technique and skill that you have to master in boxing to become good. To punch someone in the face and not get hit just looks easy to them.

I think boxing teaches self discipline and makes you humble. It gives you confidence to not be afraid of absolutely anything. And when you gain good skill in it, it gives a sense of self accomplishment. On top of everything, it builds your self confidence. Now apply all that to the person you are, and you will be a better person not only to yourself, but to other people as well. And in return, they will be better people to you. I think boxing has a very positive affect on my relationships. My friends respect me, my family is proud that I'm doing something constructive, and everyone else just appreciates me for the good person that I am, which I think boxing helped me be, and it has also made me a happier person as well.

My friends just think it's to get tough, my mom thinks it's an animal sport, my dad doesn't care; him and me aren't a good example of father and son, and my other really good friends who I've known close to all my life support me.

In highschool when I was fighting I never once had a steady girlfriend. A hook up here a fancy fondle there but that was about it. Whenever I would meet a girl that wanted to get into a relationship boxing was always a problem with it. While she wanted to hang out or go out I had to work and then train after school. Not much time for anything else really. I wanted to fight which meant that I had to train. The girls could never understand how I could put boxing infront of them. And if you know my story I did eventually put a girl infront of boxing and it was a disaster.
