Today I was asked this question and it really got me thinking. A friend of mine who plays Football and Baseball asked me "Why do you box when you could play other sports and still stay in shape and have competitive competition?" I'm a pretty good athlete but for some reason team sports dont appeal as much as the hard solo work of boxing. Allthough being on a team would be a nice brotherhood, boxing is for me. So why do you all box, and not play other sports?

well, i used to play basketball a lot and that was my thing for awhile, but after high school, i just stopped because i knew i was going no where in that sport. i was 5'9" as a freshman and i hoped to get into the 6" range but only made it to 5'11". people would always tell me i should play football or they asked me did i play. people would just see me and automatically think football. but i never played, i was too focused on basketball which went no where and i was much better at football. no one could stop me pretty much. if you gave me the ball, it was a guaranteed touchdown lol. there would be like 6 guys on me trying to get me down and i'd just be walking with them. at any rate, it just came down to boxing for me. i feel like i will go much further in boxing than i will in football and i have a feeling that i will be a champion.

i always liked boxing since i was younger. i always watched it with my pops.. but i recently took serious interest..
i like to stay in shape.. it gives me confidence.. i just dont like getting hit.. thats why its not going to ever be a career for me. its fun.. keeps me busy, pushes my body to the limit..
i played soccer since i was 4.. i stoped after senior year in HS.. im 19 now..

i remember reading or hearing ( somewhere forget where entirely, might have even been on here ) dialogue that went like this...
other guy - why dont u play a normal sport like basketball or football?
boxer - cause i dont like sports that only require one ball
or something like that.. best response i ever heard.
ne ways for me its a combination of things.. my older brother got into it, a belief that being able to fight is imperative, and now that i am into it i could continue on through sheer enjoyment. i always laugh at how hard others find it to see boxing as fun.

ross boxing say it he best.
no teamates, no timeouts, no where to hide.
in boxing you against the other guy, you cant blame a defaet on anyone but yourself, and you can win by simple wanting to win more than the other guy in the ring.
simply put boxing is beatuful
