Is going to boxing gym 2 days a week enough for amateur?

Hi, i'm new to the forums so i'm sorry if i write something wrong or ****** in advance.

I am a minor (17), and my gym is a very long way from my house, and i can realistically get there only 2 times a week, is it possible for me to compete as an amateur on an okay-ish level, given i do as much as i can (mitts, heavy bag, double end bag, conditioning, jump rope, weights) at my home gym? My gym doesn't really practice hard sparring, and light sparring i get at least once a week, mostly twice

I don’t think 2 days a week will be enough. When I was an amateur we would often spar 4 days a week and train in the gym 5-6 plus runs everyday. ( well that’s what the coach says I used to have some discipline problems with the running)

But my point is someone who spars constantly will be much more comfortable in the ring than you.

Well i guess i'm a bit screwed then, my club only has 3 trainings a week, and i can only go to two.. i guess i'll need to think about fighting after i can legally use a car

      Thanks for the reply anyway!

Eh. I mean rarely is anything the ideal situation.

You are young & clearly got a desire with all the home gym stuff & to go to a boxing gym thats not a easy place for you to get to from the sounds of it. I say get to the gym those 2 days to learn as much as you can & strive to be the hardest working, most focused on learning mfer there when you are there.

Hell maybe someone will see your intention & hook you up with a ride there eventually. Maybe not & when you get a car you can go more, but dedication imo can be a huge factor in ones success when access to normal means to succeed is not available or less available than ideal.

When you are home work hard & as often as you can there too. Ryan Garcia trained outta his parents garage for years & was a top US amateur & a couple weeks back lifted himself to the world class level in the pro game with a W over Luke Campbell. If you got someone who can advise you thats great, but if not watch the greats & try to copy their techniques & watch some solid youtube "trainers" who can help you as well.

So basically I think you can compete at the highest levels of the amateur game if you put in the work even with your current situation let alone an "okay-ish level".

          Good luck bruh.

at least two workouts a week for a minimum of 2 hours. And for those who really want to progress, you'll have to ramp it up to 3 to 5 workouts a week.
