    Using Caffeine....

Not sure if this belongs here or the General Q&A board, so please move if needed.

I don't drink coffee and I rarely take in Caffeine. No real reason, except I don't drink soda/coffee. There have been some times where I will have taken an energy Gel that has caffeine (this was during my triathlon training) and I felt an immediate response (aka, had very good workouts). These times were very few/far between by design; at key workouts and race day. So, in the course of a 10 week training period, maybe 4 times to take caffeine and one of the four was race day.

I have a few questions, as it relates to lifting....
    1) is the best way to take this a caffeine 'pill'? Or a gel? Gels can get a bit pricey if taken a lot. Any recommendations on what to buy?

    2) Is taking caffeine 3x/week (training days only) going to 'dilute' the effectiveness on the days I take it?

    3) Any insights into stomach issues when regularly taking caffeine?

    4) Most sessions are in the AM...so, my "bfast" is a banana or a piece of toast with jelly, then head to the gym 20 minutes later. I assume popping the caffeine pill at this time?

Thanks for being patient and the help.

Caffeine is a central nervous system and adrenal stimulant 'It helps you body produce adrenaline and cortisol' the two stress hormones that will raise anyway when you exercise, it also has a mild effect on ATP 'Adenosine triphosphate' the real energy of your cells.

Overall I would not train your body to become dependent on caffeine, because if you start taking it before every workout 'That is exactly what is going to happen'.

I am going to be blunt? It is a useless and silly supplement to take long term for a athlete 'That is my belief'.

You are by far more safer with creatine 'There are various forms'.

Note: Not a big supporter of stimulants. If you do want to get some caffiene maybe you can get it in the form of green tea, but 'Green tea' has blood sugar lowering effects and can affect you before exercise 'But I would say drinking green tea just after exercise at some point is alright'.

I was a daily morning coffee drinker for over thirty years until quitting over two years ago.

      Pros:
      1. no more sweaty armpits
      2. teeth got whiter
      3. no more peeing 5 times before 8 o'clock
      4. no more dry mouth
      5. saved money

      Cons:
      1. none

I love coffee and drink it daily, but gotta say the afternoon crash is not good. One good thing about coffee is if you are cutting weight, straight black coffee has no calories and will kill hunger pangs better than just water

#2 yes taking caffeine or any other drug on a regular basis will definitely limit the effectiveness of that drug. You will build a tolerance to it and it will require more of the drug to achieve the same original effectiveness, even to the point that you no longer get the effect

Open can, use tip of finger, pull over. Now pour downwards into mouth from above (open mouth)
