How to loosen up, gain rhythm?

    Any tips?

Been hitting the mitts and bag lately and I need to loosen up the body, get a groove so to speak.

I’m currently in the process of losing weight so that’s already dialed in.

But other than that, any advice?

To a decent upbeat song and in boxing stance, I like to get a back and forth rhythm going with the feet, shifting the weight from foot to foot with the beat. Almost like dancing. Get this groove going with the feet and keep the upper body relaxed. Start throwing straight left and right punches that synch up with the feet and music. Nice and loose. Not power shots. The key here is rhythm and timing, while keeping the upper body relaxed. Keep the shoulders dropped and loose between punches. Get this down then start working some side to side movement and some pivots. Stay relaxed. Try to only fire the muscle being used during that movement. Don’t let tension build up in any part of your body. If you have unnecessary tension in your head and neck, it will spread down to the shoulders and upper body. Sometimes I do this while hitting the DE bag, synching everything up to the beat of the music.

Music always does the trick for me. I always have my phone and songs and ear buds ready.

If you want to get your rhythm just work your hands with your feet and you will just find it. Work in small circles, to your left and right. Throw a punch with your right hand and bring your right foot with ya. Same with the left hand. Small circles, 1-2-1-2 while staying moving. No hard punches yet, just get the rhythm while moving about the ring. Know what I mean? Soon you'll be working the whole ring. This way and then that way, 1-2-1-2-1-2 etc.…………………...Rockin'
