After sparring tonight, one of the guys had a extended lead arm. Similar to what ufc fighters do, extended arm and constantly backing away. What are some tips and strategies to counter this? It was annoying. He’s just extending that arm, constantly running. Not throwing any punches at all either. Each time I slapped it down, he would get out of range instantly.

Yep keep smacking at it. smack it down out of the way and then come over with your punch. Smack it to the side and work the angle. if its extended, he cannot punch with that hand and his body is also open. all you need to worry about is the back hand. I think its a lame defense. If you keep whacking at it and figure out a way to get around it he will stop with this. Some guys just don't want to engage and will use tactics like this to avoid contact. Maybe this guy is scared and needs some lighter sparring to build confidence. You can also just stand there and let him feel like he needs to come to you.

Slip your head to either side of it then throw hooks to the head or body while closing the distance with your footwork.
Or slip your head to either side of it then weave under to the other side...then throw hooks to the head or body while closing the distance with your footwork.

I always thought the extended arm as a go to strategy was dumb. But you do see it from time to time.
You know he is trying to land a right hand. With his lead hand extended he can’t hurt you with it. I like to
Get a little lower in the crouch keep your head moving and counter his right with a left hook.
