wear you out when you might need your energy. I could be doing pullups and pressups all day long, but at the end of the day I might be so knackered I cant do something I need to. I.e theres a kid who wants to fight me, I might not be able to punch hard / fast enough if Ive been doing pressups and pullups

I think you acclimate to it. My day job is pretty physical; I walk 5-6 miles a day carrying a 15-lb. toolbelt, I climb ladders, lift and carry up to 100 lbs., work in confined spaces, etc. When I was training, I was DEAD for about the first month, but then it got way easier. After a few months, I was running every day, training 3 days a week, in the weightlifting gym 3 days a week, and working. I slept like a baby.
You just adapt. It's the beauty of the human animal. Stick with it.
