16oz Gloves for a Boxing Class

Hi - first post so firstly hello everyone.

I’m looking to buy some gloves for a class at the weekend.

I’ve had a search round the net and this forum and it seems 16oz is the right weight.

Class seems to focus on pad work and bags - it’s as much about the fitness side as fighting and is aimed at older blokes like me!

Can anyone just confirm please that 16s are they way to go?

Also I’m interested in inner gloves/wraps - can anyone advise there? I know wraps are the preferred option but for once a week not heavy duty action I’m thinking an inner glove for convenience?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes,16 Oz is good man, ringside makes a decent pair that will be good for you fitness need, there also 18oz, they are comfortable and good for big hads with wraps.
Hand wraps are a good option also, glove wraps might be too bulky, or get both and try em to see what is comfortable for you,,, good luck man!

Welcome. Yea the other responders are right. 16oz gloves are the best for fitness and hitting the bag. Fighters in competition use smaller gloves to offset the weight difference as fight night nears. When you go directly to a 8oz or 10oz glove from 16oz or 18oz you tend to flail your arms when punching. But if you are only conditioning 16oz is the proper protection you need. What brand you like is a personal preference.

Thanks everyone. 16oz RDX have been ordered and some beast gear gel inner gloves. My budget doesn’t run to ringside gear yet!

I’m usually of the mindset ‘buy cheap buy twice’ but it’s early days for me as far as boxing is concerned and these are mid priced ones.

If I stick at it then better quality gear might come. Thanks

A lot of pros use 16oz in sparring, especially in the higher weights.
