    Calories/Kilojules vs Fat Calories/ Kilojules

    Calories/Kilojules vs Fat Calories/ Kilojules?? Whats the difference between the two? How much is a lot of calories for one meal/drink? how much is a lot of fat calories for one meal/drink? (It would be great if you said it in kilojules, the aussie version of calories) thanks

    3 grams of fat in any given food item is about right. Calories (or kilojoules) just means the amount of energy provided by a given dietary item. Calories can come from carbohydrates (like starches and sugars), fat (like oils and lard), protein (like meat and beans), not to mention alcohol. Fat calories just refers to the number of calories provided by fat, as opposed to total calories. As I understand it, when a person eats a meal containing fat, carbs, and proteins, the proteins are mostly used to repair muscle, produce enzymes, etc., the carbs are mostly burned as energy, and the fat is stored on the body. That being said, every cell membrane in the body requires fatty acids from fat in order to be functional, so some fat intake is necessary for normal health. Also, as I understand it, it takes 25% of the energy in carbs to produce energy, so they are less efficient than fat, which only loses about 3% of its energy when burned. The implication is that fat is easily stored when carbs are present. Also, my understanding is that fat on the body is burned more in aerobic, than anaroebic, exercise. Also, it is interesting that carbs can be converted to fat on the body if one eats too much, but it costs some of energy in the carbs to convert it. But fat cannot be converted to carbs. Extra fat goes directly on the body with only about a 3% loss of energy. Good trainers of serious professional boxers know all this stuff, either intuitively or through nutritional training. Boxing is often perceived as a bunch of Neanderthals, but at the higher levels, definitely not true. And if one doesn't have recourse to good trainers or information, one is at a serious disadvantage.
