What are your thoughts on beer and training?

Gym in general, boxing training, fight preparations etc. I definitely wouldn't drink in the build up to a fight.

I train most days but I'm not fighting. I do have a couple of beers every once in a while. I would say I drink once every three months and I don't even compete right now (I'd say that's pretty good).

    Does anyone else drink?

IMO too many calories, not necessary to drink anything with calories like that, which gives no health value.

I used to drink beer and sit in the hot tub after jiu jitsu because it was the only way for me to get through the soreness. The heat of the tub plus the alcohol helped circulation and recovery for me.
It's junk calories so it will impact your bodyfat, if that's an issue (I'm pretty lean so it didn't affect me).
Also, while a drink or two can be helpful, more than that is actually a detriment to recovery so you're doing more harm than good if you have more than a couple drinks.

I think most people go about it the wrong way and drink just because they want to drink. If you use it in a smart way, and in moderation, it can be helpful so long as you don't have to cut weight. If you're cutting, avoid beer at all costs.

I've always been a regular drinker but have cut down significantly due to its detrimental effects on training. I generally try and stick to two beers a week which is enough to chill out but doesn't mess me up. Found it tough at first but now finding I don't enjoy booze as much. Your priorities start to change once you commit and that makes everything easier.

When I was an amateur boxer . I would not drink for the last
Month before a match. But one of my coaches and former pro boxer and I am pretty sure he has a world title Carlos Valera , he told me that he used to have a couple of shots just before a fight to help him get loose.
Sometimes different things work for different people. But I am
          Pretty sure Carlos used to
          Be a wild man.

I train about 4 times a week, but my Achilles heel is drinking beers. At the minute I try to spread it out over 3 days (talking about 2 a day). Trying to cut down properly.
