anyone here doing intermittent fasting with Keto?

I been doing it for 3 weeks, I'm completely sold on it as great for weight loss and health.

Only thing that sucks is I miss sandwiches and chocolate milk.

I feel way healthier too, fasting is the way humans are meant to eat. Doing this reset my hunger hormones, after my last 24 hour fast, I ate and was full on 2 eggs and 3 slices of bacon.

I easily go through a day now on a thousand calories or less which is crazy for me.

Anyone else have any experiences with this?

It is not sustainable for a normal human being who has a social life. You will be the weird friend who can’t eat cupcakes, hamburgers, pizzas, beer, birthday cakes. I see you are in NYC. You will miss out on Chinese food, Italian food, Spanish food, Jamaican food, any ethnic food.

If you are disciplined enough, and you don’t get keto rash, you’ll do just fine. If you are not disciplined then it is a failure waiting to happen.

It is great for diabetics and seizure afflicted people because it gives them a chance at life.

24 hour fast? How often are you doing that?

Also, while long ago humans would eat one large meal every feal days or so (depending on the hunt), over time (and particularly in the case of yourself, myself, and other humans living today) we have become accustomed to eating multiple times a day (and for the most part not eating very well as a whole).

So while you may feel full on 2 eggs and 3 slices of bacon in a day, please note that that isn't healthy and isn't going to sustain you in the long run.

Technically you aren't supposed to eat under 1500 cals a day, and eating keto all of the time without the supplement of a multi vitamin won't get you the correct vitamins and minerals that you need, as well as a lack of dietary fiber.

I intermittent fast (not 24 hours unless its a detox/cleanse I do with my girlfriend twice a year which still includes drinking these shakes for the first 48 hours while you fast). My eating schedule is after 12pm and done by 6-8pm depending on the day (and my training). I also do a bit of a modified keto diet, where I'll eat under a certain amount of carbs on low carb days, but I cycle carbs so that I'm eating more carbs on the weekends. I also supplement with supplements, vitamins, etc.

You need to reach a certain amount of macros per day, and as a man protein is really going to be the most important. One of the main staples for the keto diet is the addition of fats in place of the carbs. 2 eggs and 3 slices of bacon, is going to get you only a bit of fat (in the butter or oil you cooked it in) and will get you a bit of protein, but once again won't be enough if you are doing any sort of training.

Also a lot of the initial weight loss in the keto diet is because carbs bind to water. Each gram of carb you eat will hold on to 3 grams of water, so as you stop eating carbs you are also looking a lot fo the excess water weight your body is holding on to. So be careful if you break your diet with a lot of carbs that you could be putting this weight back on.

You really want to be losing body fat without losing muscle, and while being in ketosis helps our body break down those fats for energy, your metabolism will begin to slow as you eat less and less calories and less and less carbs.

Very glad you are feeling healthy, had a couple of friends that lost a lot of weight doing the keto diet and were able to keep it off even after reintroducing a small amount of carbs 6-12+ months later. One of them who had some stomach/GI issues really found some relief as well while on the diet.

Best of luck and make sure you are fueling properly and being healthy in the end!

I do 24hr fasts almost everyday. I think it’s a good thing however you need to be getting the proper nutrients and calories when you do eat. Below 1500 calories may be too much deficit, esp for those of us who are exercising daily. At the same time, the body can run on fat really well. This is what happens during IF and Keto. Your forcing the body to burn fat for energy instead of food. One thing that happens during fasting is the body doesn’t have to process and digest food, it can put that energy towards other processes like cell regeneration and muscle recovery. Also your insulin level goes way down and growth hormone increases, which is good for building lean muscle. It has really helped me stay lean and healthy. I dabble with Keto, it can be good but yeah I think I certain amount of carbs are needed. It’s all a bit complex...I recommended being informed and knowledgeable before jumping in.

You cut crazy weight doing both keto and intermittent fasting at the same time. But I did lose some muscle mass after doing this for a few months. Gained it back fairly quickly those once I quit fasting, but stayed lean.
