Next Amateur Fight - Feb 9th

Fighting again Feb 9th. Was slightly under the weather (has been -20s and below here) so had a couple days off, but had an excellent session last night with my trainer as well as some of the best sparring I think I've ever had. Had two hard work outs today, back in the gym with my trainer for an hour and sparring for another hour tomorrow morning and then another workout tomorrow afternoon.

Feeling good, think I learned a lot from the first fight. Not a lot of time to put a lot of new things into practice, but will have a better showing and do a better job of keeping my head/wits about me this time. Definitely excited to get back in the ring!

Interesting man! Just wondering, do all amateurs have such a high work rate? Training two times a day?

Yeah any sort of elite/upper level amateurs do (which I am currently not, but hope to be eventually).

They'll train 3 times a day if you count running in the morning. Then strength and conditioning mid day, and boxing training/sparring at night.

I've heard a lot about how the first 10 amateur fights are usually won and lost on conditioning. Also if you are going to enter a tournament like golden gloves (which is march 30th for me), its good to be used to having those high work rates everyday (obv rest is important, as well as nutrition).

I'd say as an amateur you should get used to running every morning (or afternoon) and training at night, depending on your schedule.

No problem man. I would say most amateurs prob don't train like this, but the serious/competitive ones most likely do.

This is an excerpt from an article I read a while back.
"I train Monday to Thursday in Sheffield with Team GB. I train at home on Friday and then have two days’ rest. I need it because they’re hard weeks – I’m training three times a day.

In Sheffield I train once at 7am, once at 12 noon and then again around 3 or 4 pm. I get up and get weighed in at 7am, then go to the track for running. Strength and conditioning is at 12 and it’s sparring, pads and bags in the afternoon."

          Here's the full article:

Hell yeah! Will def post it up.

Fights start at 3pm, which I like a little better as well.

I'm in MN and that cold messed with me too. I didn't work out at all for 3 straight days Tues-Thurs. I never take that many days off in a row but just had zero energy from that cold.
