Range (more often referred to as controlling space/distance) is established by footwork. One of the biggest beginner mistakes of to lean and reach at or away from the opponent. You should always maintain good, upright posture (in order to stay balanced) and use your legs to control space.
Good fighters to watch are Mikey Garcia, Rigo, Loma, all guys who have great control of space.

Make sure you have plenty of space and do drills with a free standing (heavy) bag. Watch your feet as you do so.
Because a bag doesn't hit back (of course) the best practice is ultra light sparring. With my boys, I put a small workout band around their lead legs and have them go at it at about 25%
Lastly, when you are working range, remember to mix in some timing drills.

You might as well lock them in a phonebooth and tell each to only use their jabs. That is honestly one of the most ****ed up ideas that I have heard on this site. We're talking about controlling distance, not fighting on the inside. I truly hope that you are not running a gym or training kids, you'll **** them up and get one hurt with your immense lack of knowledge...……?.Rockin'
You're idea of just sparring til you get it shows exactly why your in bad health. Just keep taking lefts to the head til you learn to move your head is comical and a main reason why former boxers suffer strokes...

I am not tying a f'cken belt to their legs and telling them to throw blows nor am I teaching them to fight in a phone booth. Its a freaken elastic workout band with a good lead in between, it prevents them from moving to far out of distance and putting to much weight on the lead leg. In the amateurs (as Im sure you know) you literally have 1-1.5mins to do what you have to do, moving around in the ring to much can be costly at the level I am training at. Teaching kids to keep a short in and out distance is 100% necessary.

And you are waaay off target on why I had a stroke. It had nothing to do with taking shots to my head. It was caused by an enlarged heart from training as hard as I did. An enlarged heart will get scars on it like body builders from bulking up. A scar cut loose and got stuck up near my brain. It had nothing to do with getting punched in the head. My words were only coming from the information that you gave me. You know funk all about me yet you feel free to talk **** to me. Be more precise in your words and I won't have a reason to say anything...….Rockin'
