I don't think there's anything in the that says you can't be self-taught and unaffiliated, but I hope you have one hell of a physical pain tolerance because your learning curve is going to be steep.
One of the many upsides of a gym environment is that you can learn your bad habits not-so-painfully, by light-to-medium-contact sparring against all kinds of different opponents who have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. You might be able to learn to punch in your garage -- though I don't recommend it -- but surviving in the ring is a totally different matter.
If you go this route, let us know how it turns out; I want to write the screenplay. It would make an awesome Ritchie / Cohen Brothers - type movie. . ..Last edited by fraidycat; 06-23-2006, 03:40 PM.

U cant lean to box properly without a gym unless u have a personal trainer who is excellent, even then ur missing out on quality sparring with different styles and problems. Training with other good fighters helps ur game. If ur friends will be in ur corner i hope they know what there talking about and have boxing experience.
