Sinus and other problems after boxing.

So I had a CT scan done few weeks/months back, and unexpectedly it showed my sinuses are pretty much fcked.

The doctor said it was a result of boxing (after many broken noses) over 12~16 years of competing.

I wasn't expecting to hear that,as the ct scan was for something different and that just kinda popped up. Although I did notice it,I never paid too much attention to it (till now cause I'm aware of it more).

It got me thinking, first of all how lucky I actually was that it was just sinuses from boxing that showed up and nothing more serious. And secondly, I wonder if this is a regular thing.

Doctor said the only way to correct it at this stage would be surgery.

Has anybody here who has left boxing had problems creep up on them as a direct result of the sport?
It really kind of put it into perspective for me how dangerous (as we all know) the sport can be even at an amateur level.
Not just the immediate dangers but the after effects.

Yes we all know and talk about the complications after boxing, but nothing kind of drives it home more than having it happen to you.

I know my problems (so to speak) are tiny compared to some effects people have after boxing, but has just made me more aware of i t and was wondering if many other ex boxers have had this after boxing since a young age or for a number of years?

Havnt a clue, just that I'm congested all the time, its from boxing (mainly broken noses) and only way to clear it is surgery.
Putting it off for another day as dealing with a different medical problem.........which thinking about might be over boxing 2 :/ hmm

Are they saying one of the nasal passages is affected from air coming in and out?

i have a deviated septum but no point getting it fixed until i hang up the gloves (so maybe never haha). i kind of hope i get a broken nose at some point soon so maybe i can get it reset. it's pretty annoying. sounds like OP has got it worse than me

just on a more general note, i remember the first time i saw someone who was 'punch-drunk'. he was employed by a gym i went to as a helper, they said he was a very good boxer once. scared the **** out of me

What do you mean congested? Describe your symptoms.

What type of doctor ordered the CT Scan? Was it an ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) or your primary care doctor?

Getting a CT scan of your dome for being congested is a pretty big procedure. Doctors don't do CT scans for minor complaints because you get a fair amount of radiation from it.

I find it odd that you went through all of these steps to black out when it came to your diagnosis. What is the diagnosis dude lol? You should have a piece of paper from your doctor describing the CT Scan. Why don't you get that and read it to us.

            Also, what's your other problem?

To answer your original post, yea man Boxing fùcked my body up. Up and down my frame. Some of the pro's from my gym have had corrective surgeries done. We all live with some sort of pain on a daily basis. These casuals don't know the real dirty secrets about Boxing because nobody talks about it. You just deal with it and keep going.

Congested as in can't breath through my nose.
It was my GP (normal doctor) who ordered the CT scan. I didn't "blackout", my sinuses was just something that popped up.

Im seeing an eye specialist at the moment cause one of my eyes is bulging out.
So I didn't get a scan for a minor complaint,I got a scan cause I look like Popeye at the moment haha, the sinuses was just something that was their to come back to,as a bulging eye is a bit more important.

And to answer the question on that, eye specialist thinks it might be a thyroid problem, but nothing is showing in my bloods, and getting an MRI to check it out along with other tests.

Ya its crazy the when you actually look a bit deeper the problems after boxing. Not the big issues like brain injuries and all that, but the small nigley problems, such as the sinuses, your arms, legs all that kind of stuff, and not at just professional level

What does pretty much fùcked mean in the Doctor's words? What was a result of Boxing? Your Doctor does a CT-Scan of your face, whoever read the CT-Scan before forwarding it over to the Doctor typed the diagnosis. CT-Scan shows everything dude, they know and they told you.
