    First time sparring

Hi guys, I joined a gym about 6 months ago. The trainer wants me to spar, and Im extremely nervous. How did you get over the nerves?

It's just sparring, if you've been there 6 months then I'm sure you've developed some type of skills and know what you are doing. It's obvious your trainer thinks you're ready, plus you are there to work on things, that's what sparring is for, it's not a drag out war. You'll be ok man.

If your gym is like any gym I've ever been to than people are there to help each other out. I'm sure after you'll have people giving you pointers and encouraging you.

Honestly the nerves never officially go away and its somewhat a good thing, like most things in life when u get complacent is when u get hurt. With that said I cant tell u, u wont be nervous as heck the first few times u spar bcuz id be lying, what i can say is, the more you do it, the better you will become at controling those nerves.when u get hit clean the first time u will get a sudden rush of adrenaline, we all do, ive seen some people cry (usually kids & teens) & most throw all technique theyve been training so hard for out the window, go wild & gas out lol but its ok as long as u come ready the next day. All i can really say is to CONTROL YOUR BREATHING & trust in your training. If u get it in your head beforehand u are in great shape & well trained (small chip on your shoulder) u will be ok. Good luck & let us know how it goes...

I started a topic here after my first serious sparring.

It got easier for me each time. My fear of failure has held me back in many ways. Have fun, but protect yourself at all times.
