Punching the bag on the end of the punches......

To get the most power on a straight punch its important to hit them right at or near full arm extension.

However if I do this on my bag the bag isnt packed enough for it to work ie its too soft and you have to dig too deep to make an impact.

If I fill my bag enough its too hard and I break my hand on rear hooks even with big gloves on

You shouldnt be breaking your hand on a hardish bag if your hands are wrapped properly. I can hit a wall and be ok (not as a workout mind you). And be careful hyper extending your elbow throwing punches with full snap AND extension. Try to keep it from fully extending (especially if your putting a lot on your jabs)

I don't get how the bag you have is having the issue of too soft or hard. Is the bag uneven or something? Like everything has been packed down to the bottom half due to head shots and the top is soft and youve been trying to fill it or what? I mean... Aside from rolling the bag on the ground (if youre strong enough to take it down without ruining your back lol) I'm not an expert on bag care so I'm sorry if that's not a big help. Only time I ever had that issue was with bad bags that would lose their shape and all the rolling and weight distribution didnt help after a while.

Or maybe your bag is coming loose where it's tied at and after punching its expanding unless you overfill? Maybe use a zip tie or something that wont move once it's on. I dunno bro just trying to help.

"To get the most power on a straight punch its important to hit them right at or near full arm extension".

        Wrong again little fellow!
If your fist can make contact when its 70% extended and your looking to punch "through" the target you will land with more power compared to a fully extended punch. Fully extended punchers are basically arm punches. Your power has already moved through your motion and your left with a jabs impact!

"rear hooks" I'm almost afraid to ask what they are! hahaha..is it fishing?

Seriously alex why not search out a real trainer and learn the basics?
You can't learn to box off a forum!

          I know better than you.

If you go through too much, you turn it into a push, because the arm and body reaches its highest speed at the end of the punch, it builds and builds until that point.

So if you try to go through the bag too much you never reach your max speed.

If you hit the surface of the bag only you wont do any damage because you need to transmit the force effectively and you cant do taht unless you form a solid connection with the target.

So the ideal is about a 3 inch penetration on a hard bag. (No thats not a Freudian slip)

Problem is if the bag is soft you cant do a 3 inch penetration, because you go 2 inches of cushion before it starts to get solid and if its hard enough it hurts like hell to punch it full force esp with rear hooks

You're breaking the chain of kinetic energy when you fully extend as your elbow is doing the snap at that point. It's an arm punch. You might think it's adding speed and velocity to your punch but thats only because of the strain you're feeling on the elbow at full extenstion.

Even if you don't agree with Ray on his opinions about fighters or anything like that he still knows the sport intimately not just as a fan/boxer but as a trainer who has been around the game probably as long as some of us have beeen alive. This is a basic fundemental that you shouldn't be f ucking up on (the arm extension). You're going to ruin your elbow doing that... Not just that but how are you even maintaining your balance through more than one or two punches without properly using your body? Maybe it's just my thinking but properly throwing punches at least with me is a HUGE part of my foundation and lets me move my legs and upper body/head "seamlessly" between and with punches (I realize I'm not floyd mayweather jr but Im talking in general ).

Why are you only wrapping your wrist when the fear is breaking your hand? Where does that line of thinking come from? You're being stubborn at this point. Maybe you don't want to join a gym to learn proper form and fundementals but at least take some of the advice you get here. You can't learn how to box off a forum but at least take care of your hands/body and not wrapping your hands properly can become an issue in the future (If you are training often...I guess f youre just an occasional type then your hands might be ok if youre lucky and dont throw a half assed punch that lands on the outer knuckles and ruins your form and hand...). Some of us have had formal training, have competed, or have even trained others so swallow your pride man and at LEAST take some of our advice. I don't mean any offense here but try it out for a while. If you need the extra extension on the punch then step in a little... You want the force to be released into your opponent/bag and not disperse at your elbow. Go 70-80% of extension and you shouldnt even feel the punch much in the elbow you'll feel it in a bigger group of muscles (Itll just feel right and heavier)

                WRONG!

If you cant get your body behind the punch at or near full extension YOU SUCK AT PUNCHING!

Does it really make any difference what you do? (alex)
Your not training to be a competitive fighter so do what you want to do.
Break your wrist your hand and your head too......
No matter what answers you get from people you just answer your own questions anyway.
good luck another kid who's done nothing in the sport who claims to be an expert!
