14 Year Old Boxer/Athlete Needs Training Help!

Okay so i am 14 and a half years old, and i am an amateur boxer. I have had 3 fights so far that were all sanctioned.

Anyways im 5'7 120 pounds and my trainer and my dad (who is also an athlete/competed in many sports his whole life) want me to bulk up and gain some weight as to be honest im a little to thin.

Now i love running and can easily run 3-5 miles a day as i am in really great shape for a teenage athlete. Anyways was just wondering should i cut off the extra cardio excluding ACTUAL boxing training at my gym and instead of doing roadwork lift weights and just do my boxing sessions and forget the roadwork.

Because since im trying to put on some muscle/weight i already do enough cardio as is with boxing training/class so should i still do roadwork? As i want to put on clean weight but maintain my cardio if you know what i mean.

My nutrition is in check and i am consuming 3000 Calories a day, making sure im eating whole foods and the appropriate/good amounts of Protein, Carbs and Fats.

Sorry for longer post then intended

All help is very much appreciated!

Everything that your doing sounds concrete, all I would advise is to cut your roadwork back to 2-3 miles. Other than that just wait and the pounds will pack on.

I think Joe Frazier's calisthenics workout is perfect for teenagers.

      3 or 4 sets of 25 pushups
3 or 4 sets of 10 sit ups (or as many as you can do)
Plus your running and your boxing training.

That should be enough to get you growing little. You can add 3 sets of 10 pull ups to that later on if you still want more size.

I'd say cut the road work to about 2 miles. Any less than that you might as well not run at all. Increase the calorie count, otherwise bulking will take for ever.

The problem with bulking in boxing is it requires you to be very meticulous with the upkeep of your body. Boxing can be a very conflicting sport if trying to gain weight. Not impossible though.

Your 14 years old and you box, of course your skinny.

Once your puberty really kicks in you will add muscle. Focus on technique, I guarantee you the size will come on naturally.

I've trained with multiple kids who were in the same position. Don't sweat it.

IDK man, I will have to disagree with the other posters about cutting your roadwork, roadwork is the most important training IMO for any fighter. 5'7" and 120lbs isnt that small. You wont be full framed until you are 25 years old. Also once you start messing with your weight (diet), your body will never be the same again, as long as you fit your frame (shoulders & waist) you are fine. Tall and lanky muscled fighters are always the hardest fighters to box, so if I were you or your trainer Id be focusing more on the size that you have and use it to your advantage. If you are getting bullied around the ring, you may want to look at your stance and technique before thinking a weight gain will benefit your sturdiness...

You don't have a problem whatsoever, Just keep doing what you're doing. Focus more on techniques and strategies on the ring.
Let natural progression work with you.

Choosing the right weight class to fight at is not an easy thing to do, a lot of factors have to be considered, for example ur style, r u more confortable boxing from a distance or do u like fighting on the inside more? Also power and chin are important to be considered, if u feel u lack power and/or chin then u should move down in weight but be careful not to be drained (lowest weight possible without being drained) and vice versa.

It also depends on whether u wanna make a career out of boxing or is it just a sport u do to stay fit or to learn how to defend urself? if u don't wanna make a career out of it then u shouldn't go through this whole weight thing and try to gain weight till u look good, but in boxing u r always thin especially at ur age.
