pro fight gloves vs bag gloves

what are the major differences BESIDES one is for fighting and one is for hitting the bag.

    what i know/think i know so far:
-bag gloves have harder padding for more durability and protection.
-fight gloves are softer? less durable?

how do the padding distributions differ? more padding on knuckle for bags? more padding around forearm/wrist/back-hand for fight gloves??

i know some things may differ brand to brand, but is the general tendency?

    thanks!

      Fight gloves vs bag gloves

There are major different of both gloves padding and protection for both your hands and the opponent you are punching at. Obviously a 16oz glove will more protection and therefore hit with much less power than a 14oz glove.

        appreciate the response
but im looking for an answer more about the distribution of padding for say a 10oz bag glove vs 8oz professional fight competition glove.

I wish I knew. I see A LOT of folks now using fight gloves for bag and mittwork instead. I've tried it using some Ringside ones, and I loved it. Can't put my finger on it, but I think it has to do with the feedback you get from the bag and the fuller range of motions you can apply to your punches (granted an inch of extra padding shouldn't really change that). Obviously fight gloves are typically smaller, mostly due to the lack of support around the wrist and back of the hand. They're catered to shorter use, go figure.

I've recently switched over to the smaller, classic bag gloves as a medium between both, using the Rival intelli-shock gloves. I definitely now prefer the smaller gloves, although I admittedly look goofy using them. I think it has more to do with experienced people being able to use gloves with less support because we know (hopefully) how to throw our punches correctly much more frequently.. so the risk, even the need, for more support isn't there.
