Boxing with Injury in the Face

Hi folks, this is my first post in here,

So the thing is that I have been interested in boxing for some time now. I like the idea of learning how to defend myself and I also like the sport and I actually watch some boxing fights from time to time. I'm 17 years old now, it would be a great time to start but I have this issue that may completely stop me from doing it.

I have this thing called "cleft lip and palate" or maybe it is known as "hare-lip". I don't know, I'm not a native English speaking guy. If someone does not know what that is... well, I really would give a link but I'm not allowed to do it because I have not written 15 posts here yet. Please search for it in google! And maybe someone can post a link to the wikipedia article if someone is that kind.

So I really don't know if I can handle the hard punches to the face that well. I fear that there is a possibility that someone punches me straight to the face and because of that injury he would cut my face in two or something. I mean I'm not a pretty boy or anything but it wouldn't be nice if my face was cut in two, eh?

So I have been hitting the heavy bag for about a month now and that has been fun. However my future with boxing is pretty much ruined because of this injury. I can be nothing in boxing with this face. Too bad, I could've been the next lightweight champion or something, haha (in my dreams). So now you can either mock me for whining or say sorry or tell me to get my face cut in pieces. I cry anyways because I have to suffer from this injury which won't let me box..

A big thank you for those who have read the whole post!

You can absolutely participate. Just look into "full face" headgear. The type with the bar across the front. Many pros use them to ensure they don't get injuries that would postpone a fight.
If you want to compete, you'll need a doctor to evaluate your condition.

Only you know the extent of your condition. And a doc. Listen to your body! If you get some normal sparring rounds and your face feels like it's gonna slide off, then thats a good indicator that you need to hang em up! If you feel you can continue then do so!
