    Teaching kids

What would you say is the best to start with?

And how would you explain it to them in the best way for them to understand?

    From age 6 - 7 upwards.

Of course it's best to take them to a proper boxing gym and to a proper boxing trainer but atm that hasn't been sorted yet so for now whilst they aren't in a gym what's the best i can do for them?

Little cousins and they will be joining a gym asap but for now i wanna start teaching them basics like stance etc but goddamn it seems impossible trying to get them to understand what i mean.

Any ideas or ways best for kids to understand and what would you say is best to try and teach them first?

Basically like introducing them to boxing before a proper boxing trainer starts teaching them properly.

What basics can i start trying to teach them before i can get them to the gym is what i mean.

unless you have trained yourself theres nothing you can teach them and anything you try teach them without knowing it yourself will only lead to bad habits that a proper trainer will have to spend time correcting. the kids are young, theres no rush. get them to a proper gym if they are keen to begin training.

        I have trained myself.

Just looking for some little tips on how to make them understand stance a bit more and what sort of general boxing advice i can start ramming into their heads from a young age.

I will be getting them to a proper gym anyway but i want to start them very young and for a little while whilst i can't get them in the gym as of now i wanna show them a few basics, or at the very least try and prepare them for what to expect in boxing.

I myself started around 14-15 and IMO the sooner the better, so just some advice/stories on how you or someone you know got their kids/young family members into Boxing.

Well if you aren't sure where to start or what to do, thats probably a sign that you shouldn't bother, no offence.

Teaching boxing is like building a house, it starts with feet and footwork. Stance and moving correctly starts everything off properly. But yeah my advice is just wait to get the kids in the gym.

            Stance -legs shoulder width apart

            Guard-hands up elbows down

            1-2s. Only.

            Moving forward
front leg take a big step back leg follows in a small step

moving bacwards back leg takes a big step and front follows in a small step.

Skip in a boxing stance forword and backward after subtle footwork is lookin that good.

Do mitts 1-2s only guide them to move forward and backward set an dc throw 1-2s

            Jump rope

            Exercises-push ups
            sit ups
            mountain climbers
            jumping jacks
            squat jumps

That alone will help big time and give them familiarity.

This is where I trained, and I'm a big proponent of this style of training for kids.

Kids can't concentrate for ****, butnyou put them in a group setting like this, and they pick it up fast.

I prefer age 10-11 not 7-8 even 10 you must be carefull because the long bones are still growing and filling. Hard play and running and jumping can effect different structured kids in different ways. (height and bone)
Normal play is alot different the organized training on a childs body.

I do agree that balance, hand positioning, leg movement and head and waist moves can be taught but keep the sessions very short. Kids don't see any importance in those techniques they want to box!

You really need a trainer who knows how to teach kids and is experienced with an amateur program. This is not easily found these days.
                    Where are you located?
