8 Year Old Starter Kit questions...

Want to get my nephew something to start with. I'm going with what I think is the best in terms of quality and price for the headgear (ringside $60 with cheek guard) as far as gloves go I would like to get him a nice pair. I don't see any that have laces for his size or are specific for sparring. Just see bag gloves ... Any suggestions.

Wraps, mouthguard, ropes I'm just gonna scoop up at sports authority. Mainly his first gloves.

those stores sell 'play' toys as far as boxing equipment is concerned, generally speaking it's garbage.

go to the Ringside site, quality stuff at good prices.

at that age don't get him, or let him hit, a heavybag.

I got these two from the actual RingSide website (cheaper) and some handwraps... What do you think? I don't know how to post pictures.

Title or ringside competition head gear.
ringside gloves. Get some flashy kind.they are 12oz
mouthpiece.shock doctor is the best.sports bag from sports authority.wraps everlast from sports authority.

Ring side shoes or some type of nike basketball shoes.

You gonna be dropping him off or training him with the gym coach?

Keep it basic for 2 months. Dont spar him for 2 months.
do body shots first. Then jab spar for 2 days in 1 week. Then spar him the next week at least 3 days. Then take a week off of sparring and work mitts galore.
Then spar again the next week. Thats 3 months

Personally, I think at that age all he needs is a mirror and some handwraps. Stance, footwork, balance, punching technique, defense, ect. will take months to learn and don't require anything besides a little room to move around. Gotta learn the basics first then you bring in the equipment and fun stuff in IMO.

Without a doubt... I told him he's not going to be using them for a looooong time. I just wanted to give him something to work towards.
