How to fight an awkward boxer

New boxer has come to the gym, he says he has been boxing for awhile but looks awkward and weird. He slaps a lot of his punches and when he does throw any form of proper punches he throws them in a very awkward way, he switches stance and just stands at weird ****ing angles, and sometimes pulls his whole body when trying to throw punches.

It's hard to explain without having a video or any photos, but has anyone had experience with sparring or fighting an awkward fighter, not necessarily bad, just awkward.

Yeah you have to use faints a lot, you have to make him react. If he's unpredictable, see how he tends to react to your punches. Once you know at least that, it becomes easier because you can now set him up. Take the initiative and don't let him lead. At least that's what I do when I've sparred some weirdass dude.

Basically this. Awkward fighters with experience come with the advantage, similar to southpaws, they are used to seeing conventional fighters and they are usually are aware that they are awkward and present difficulties to their opponent. I consider myself a sort of awkward fighter, I am orthodox but use a philly shell that is more uncommon at my level, and I have some unorthodox punches and combinations I lead with or use in sets, and depend on my speed and reflexes alot, so I always bet on having an early 2 round advantage before my opponent figures me out and I have to start adjusting.

        Generally,

Make him turn and use angles. Aim for his chest. Keep a high guard and make him fight at your pace. Don't ever pull straight out, where he'll be most dangerous. Get all the way out or all the way inside and keep your eyes on target.

If all else fails, step on his foot and punch him.

If he slaps his punches and is off balance, then he likely isn't a very good inside fighter. Go inside and rough him up. I'm sure he won't be able to keep his balance and wouldn't be very effective inside, especially with slappy-punches.

Just for the mere term "Awkward" , you can easily have a style of winning over that kind of boxer. But, lol, since boxing is also a game of chances and style , that awkwardness can turn into greatness if you are too confident of winning all the time over your opponent.

He said don't get ****y and sleep on a geek or you might get caught. He said a geek might one day learn to hone his odd qualities into strengths.

                  Fight your fight.

I don't focus on what opponents want to do, I focus on what I want to do and get them to do what I want.

The first thing that came to mind to me was something someone else already posted -- aim for the chest. It isn't going to move, and a lot of "awkward" guys who have unusual movement will duck into that so it lands to the head.

And if not, as you learn the range of the chest you'll figure out where his head is as you throw.

Another thing is combinations. If you throw five and six punches, all the awkward in the world probably won't keep him away from all of them.
