    Rolling with the punches

Is there a proper way to do it? And how much impact does it take off a punch when you're doin it right?

Eyes open and move with the punch so you can come back with your own...take it on the shoulders and arms if you can

If your head is moving away from the punch at 25% of the speed of his punch then it would reduce the initial impact by 25%. The force of your opponent pushing your head after impact is a different matter but it's still reduced. How much the force is reduced entirely depends on how fast you're moving away from the punch. The same principle explains why counter punching is so effective, since you can catch your opponents head while stationary or even coming towards your fist and increase the force of the impact.

Well, I don't think there's a fix rule about how to manage rolling with the punches as it could be different from person to person depending on their choice as well as the situation and timing.....and I would say that timing is the most important factor to mange with rolling and punches.

As one might have noticed, the "rolling with the punches" technique alone doesn't suffice... A great boxer mixes it with great defensive footwork (i.e. "running"), intelligent clinching and, sometimes, a particular technique of inside boxing...
