Don't you know there's no such thing as a right hook from the ortho stance? Only idiots believe that.......

I tried throwing a right hook from an orthodox stance and ended up causing the bubonic plague.

Hahaha, I once attempted to throw a right hook from the ortho stance, and caught HIV.

Thankfully I just called it an looping right hand, and I was cured.

Fighters from the former Soviet Union are known for these wide, looping right hands. Fedor the mixed martial artist used them a lot. In Systema (the Russian martial art) I have even heard this referred to as casting punches.

That doesn't change the fact that in most American gyms I've been to they don't generally teach this as being correct technique.

I'm not sure correct is the right word. It's correct technique, but maybe just not so common. It was certainly taught in all the gyms I've been to, with all the usual trappings of clean technique.

Or could it just be that you've not gone to a wide array of gyms? (Not at all meant insulting, but how many gyms can you get to across the US, unless you travel a lot and train a lot, or specifically go to gyms all around the place to learn technique?)

As an example at the highest level, theres video of both Roger Mayweather teaching right hooks to a young kid at his gym, amateur footage, and a 'proper' YouTube video of an official teaching video by Jeff Mayweather going through all the basic punches in boxing, jab, straight right hand, left hook, right hook, uppercut etc. they learned from the very best trainers in boxing, and they still teach it in their gyms as correct technique and a basic punch. That's just one example. Beristain teaches it as a staple too.

Hahaha, I had this convo in the History section and I also stated that there is no such thing as a right hook from the ortho stance in that one posters thread that used to ask all of those crazy questions
(what if I throw a jab with my left pinky at a 365 degre angle while I am thinking about eating rice crispies with 2% milk will it be more powerful?)

                  Hahaha remember that kid?
