Running = Boxing Cardio?

    if you expect to get most of your cardio for boxing by running you will need to have somebody beating the **** out of you every step of your run. There are many things that can replace traditional roadwork with out losing any endurance/stamina............. Rockin'

      My approach is that roadwork gives you the base cardiovascular fitness to effectively do all of the other training.

        it will strengthen the legs and help cardio, but there are other methods of achieving the same results. Running is good but it is not the end all.......... Rockin'

          The impact of repetitive punching will break your body down enough without compounding the issue. I tend not to run, it adds unnecessary wear & tear.

              Running is important, but I found even more important is sprinting.

              I won't get into the science of it, but basically sprinting will train your blood cells to carry more oxygen and recover faster. Sprinting up hill is god tier for boxing.

              Nothing can really mimic being in the ring, but sprinting until your gassed is the closest thing as far as training your body to recover faster which as a fighter is what's most important.

                What we would do outside my gym is for a straight distance do a variety of sprints(I think others sports like football do this?) where we would take off the line then maybe in 20-30 ft there would be a line drawn in chalk where you would have to stop and halt while running in place for a quick 1-2-3 step then continue on sprinting and that would continue in a cycle for around 100yds. Back and down, I guess you can call them "stop and sprints"?

                  I think running hard is where you get most of your wind and stamina but it dosent condition your body to throw punches at an intense pace like the heavy bag does.

                  Put both together for the complete package.
