    outside fighters question

Does anyone know of a specific fight in mind where the guy on the outside, circling the ropes is winning / effectively striking the stalker?

Almost like the "Ali" style but it seems most fighter when circling the ropes tend to just stick to jabs (def not saying it's bad lol) just trying to find a guy who really picks people apart from the outside with all punches.

Anyone have any fighter or fight that comes to mind???

Holmes vs Shavers 1 was a beautiful display or Holmes vs Cooney? Both are useful in an educational sense because in Shavers, Holmes was meeting a shorter, smaller guy applying pressure......whereas in Cooney, Holmes was doing something similar to a taller, heavier opponent.

Walcott was doing a great job against Marciano first time before the stoppage.

The Pernell Whitaker and Meldrick Taylor (first) fights with Chavez jump to mind too. Granted Taylor was stopped in the last few seconds......but Whitaker more than deserved the decision in my eyes. Great examples; Taylor unleashed remarkable two fisted combinations; brilliant to watch!

Sugar Ray Leonard, Amir Khan, Shane Mosley. I can think of many more.

These guys didn't dance around the outside of the ring as much as Ali. The reason why honestly is because they are much better overall boxers than Ali. Ali relied more on his speed when he fought like that. Ali was sloppy with his technique and got away with it by dancing all around the ring like that because he was a freak of nature.

Look at older Ali. He tightens up his defense and is so tough and has so much ring savy he was still amazing. Not quite as fancy and fun to watch has young Ali but still a freak of nature.

When it comes to being an outside fighter the guys like the ones I mentioned above are the staple of who you should watch (and many more).

Khan is a better boxer. Ali was a better fighter but Khan is a better technical boxer.

If Ali was equal at any one aspect of boxing it was footwork. Everywhere else Ali was sloppy and did things that would get other people KO'd.

Khan hangs his chin out to dry just as much as prime Ali did......and the consequences are clear to all who have followed his career.

Khan opens up with those sharp combos and gets sloppy with his technique which gets him caught. He doesn't leave his chin out there near as much as Ali with his hands down like Ali did.

Ali was not a great technical boxer. He is the greatest fighter of all times tho.

Khan keeps his hands up but just gets sloppy and doesn't bring them all the way back into position. He gets sloppy and keeps his head in the inside when he throws his combos.

Whereas Ali always kept his head on the inside while throwing and always kept his hands down.

This doesn't mean Khan is a better fighter by any means. But Khan has/uses more technique.

did you guys purposely left the most obvious name out of the conversation?

Floyd Mayweather is a master at staying outside and boxing when he wants to. To the OP watch his fight agaisnt Diego Corrales. It was a masterpiece

                    here it is actually:
