    Boxing three times a week?

I'm 18, 159 pounds, 5 foot 5 inches, waist at around 32 inches. Body fat at around 16% or something according to formulas on the net. I've been boxing for around three months now. I, due to being in full time education, can only do training three times a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday. I do that with a group of others at the local boxing gym. Question is, is there a point boxing when the frequency of my training is this low? I want to get into some amateur competing here and there. Also, obviously, want to get a more defined figure out of it all.

Each session lasts at least one hour, mostly averaging around an hour fourty five minutes. Pad work, heavy bag work, all the cardio stuff such as skippin rope etc and conditioning. Sparring sometimes, haven't been involved with much of it as of yet but I really want to.

Generally about me as a boxer, according to my coach I'm quick on my feet and have a large reach with my arms but need to work on actually utilising it by fully extending out during a cross etc etc. I'm average height I suppose in comparison to the others in my weight division.

Also any certain eating programmes to follow to keep in shape?

Some of the best clubs in the UK only open 3 times per week.

You can practice what you have learned in the gym at home (shadow boxing if you don't have any equipment) and you can learn from watching fights on the net.

Add a couple of runs / interval / circuit sessions for fitness too.

    Good luck.

5/5 and 160lbs your in for learning alot of getting under and around. Find some links on a guy named James "HardRock" Green. Rock was about your size (5' 4 1/2")and for a time was a tuff guy to fight. My old friend Johnny Davenport had hin as a kid in the amatuers then he went with Duva as a pro but they threw him in heavy to fast. Tuff lil guy! Ray

Im sure you could get down to 147lb which i think is the 67kg category for amateur.

In terms of weight, I'm relatively happy with it. I'm around 72-73 kilos. If anything, I want to just burn of some of the body fat I have for a better figure.
