What would be your best piece of advice be for a beginner (3 months in, 5 nights a week)? I'm being patient and trying to drill as much as possible.

even before reading that post i was gonna tell you to start with the basics. perhaps the most common mistake beginners make is trying to fight like an experienced boxer from day one.
what you should do is start with the basics, learn the fundamentals and when you are a good basic boxer start adding more advanced tricks and moves. trying to build a roof before the walls are finished will send it all crashing down on your head.
until you mastered using your footwork for defense, blocking and parrying punches, basic head movement (slipping, weaving etc), have a nearly perfect sense of distance and angles you shouldnt even think about the shoulder roll. with just 3 months training its impossible for you to have done that so leave the shoulder roll at home because as of now its holding you back.
