By 'uncommon punch' I mean punches besides the normal "number" punches, 1,2,3, etc that are tHe basic universal punches.
I will go first. My favorite "uncommon punches" are:
1. Lead left hook - almost like a "jab hook", very little power and thrown from outer distance, fast. I use this punch to mix things up if opponent is using a tight guard where I canT get a jab to the face, sometimes this goes right around their guard and lands.

I know not everyone here agrees with the ExpertBoxing guy but I watched this video and tried his advice in sparring and it did actually work well for me.
2. shovel hook - the "upper cut hook" or "hookercut" or whatever else it's known as. I like this punch as it can be thrown more easily from middle/ outside distance than a hook to the body. And then it comes from an angle where you can land on the opponents body even if they defend their body pretty well. (I try to land it at the sternum.) also, throwing it doesn't tire me as much as throwing a hook does (those hooks really gas me).
Again I learned the technique from ExpertBoxing and then it actually worked for me in sparring--

Anybody else use punches like these which are less common?
On the one hand I guess the basic jab, right, left hook, right uppercut are universal for a reason , meaning they are usually more effective than these "weird punches"? On the other hand, if it works in sparring, why not use it...
