Hi Guys,
In the past year and a half I've started some boxing training at home. Just heavy bag, speed bag, etc. I had done some with a club when I was younger but had been away for it for a while.
Anyways, I find myself having a recurrent pain in the middle knuckle of my right hand when punching the heavy bag. It's more than just a little bit of pain, it's very painful at times. A hard right cross can be excruciating.
At first I blamed the gloves, they were the Everlast shock foam, velcro strap ones that you see around ?5-?0. I found them okay, but the foam seemed quite hard and stiff, I would have preferred sometime more soft and cushioned against my knuckles, it seemed like they irritated the middle knuckle of my right with almost every punch I through after a few minutes on the heavy bag. I've since read online that Everlast gloves of low or medium price bracket are generally junk, and one must pay alot for good Everlast gloves.
So I bought some different gloves, I bought a pair of dirt cheap Title bag mitts (under ?0) and a pair of RDX bag mitts, which I must say both of which were WAY better than the more expensive Everlast IMO (I've since gave the Everlast away). Although that said the Title were quite light, wouldn't really offer that much protection or weight on the hands and wrists. With wanting something heavier, I thought I'd get another pair of more expensive Title as I was impressed with even their cheapest gloves. So I got a pair of their answer to my previous Everlast I guess you could say.. Shock foam, velcro strap, medium price, sparring gloves. While being better than the Everlast, I still find them quite similar in construction/density, and they are paining me a little with the middle knuckle on my right under medium-hard punches. I'm afraid to go too hard no incase I start the whole thing up again really bad where I can't do heavy bag for ages.
I wrap pretty well. At first I used 108 hand wraps but very soon I started using 180's to offer move protection. I also combined wraps and Adidas gel knuckle when I was using the Everlast but to no avail. I laid off the heavy bag for quite a while to recover and just done other things instead, to see if that made any difference but knuckle pain still comes back no matter how long it's left.
I guess I could go on buying gloves forever until I find one that works for me. Are there any good reasonable priced gloves preferably in the UK that are really good? Are all gloves filled with that shock foam these days? Is there other alternatives? I don't think it works for my hands, unless I'm doing something wrong or cursed with bad shaped/density gloves.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
