    Preparing to join Boxing Gym

Hey guys, new around here and recently looking to join a Boxing gym.

Basically I've always been a boxing fan but only recently decided to consider trying it out myself. Always been abit sceptical as im only 5"7 haha, but anyway.. Already know a bit about nutrition and the such as I go to the gym Thursday and Saturdays to do weight lifting.

Looking to join the boxing gym where my mate also trains (he's a white collar boxer) but I was hoping to get a bit more fitter before. I used to be a black belt in Kuk Sool Won (Korean Martial Arts) but nowhere near that level of fitness or cardio endurance as I was.

I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on how to prepare and get fitter before I join. You know, just enough to at least enable me to keep up with the pace of classes, as of course the boxing sessions are what get you really fit. I have a punch bag and skipping rope available for use in my bedroom if that helps with suggestions.

    Thanks for reading guys

Just go. Get fit learning; otherwise you can wait a long time waiting to get in good enough shape to go and workout. Just go, take the step and get started.

Dude, don't even worry. Just go to the gym and join up. May as well just jump right in. You'll learn to adapt as you go along and won't second guess yourself cause you've already joined.

If it is really the important for you to get fitter before going in. Just run 1 mile a day, non-stop for a week. After that, you should be good to go. The best thing is just to jump in and try it out.

        Run 3 miles a day, 5 or 6 days a week.

Get to where you're comfortable with that and can pick up the pace for short spurts.

        Lots of pushups and situps.

That should have you ready to get started.

          Cheers for the replies guys

Is it true about you losing more fat when you run on an empty stomach? For example, first thing in the morning? Hopefully true, as I am going to start going running when I first wake up, before my breakfast.

Also, are "proper running shoes" really necessary? If I do start running? Considering it'll be on concrete/tarmac/public path's

grab your membership fee, your gym bag, your balls and head for that gym. you don't need to eat before you go, they'll probably have some humble pie tere for you to snack on once you get going. I think that you will find that it's not as easy as it looks. I also believe that you will love the ride if you put in the work. there is no world like the boxing world, it is another world altogether.......... Rockin'

most make do with what they have in this game, but if you have the money to spend on good shoes than I recommend that you do buy 'proper' shoes. Sooooooo many things can be affected in your body from not wearing the right shoes. From your feet, to your knees, to your spine, your alignment, etc.

Get some shoes specifically made for running if you will be running on concrete, and don't be shy with the money if you can afford it.

Good running shoes end up paying for themselves many times over. I'd rather pay for "proper' running shoes a couple times a year rather than any doctors bill or injury.......... Rockin'

Running on concrete in anything is going to damage your knees, a good pair of running shoes will definitely help.

As regards to running on an empty stomach, yes that does burn fat. Think about your stomach as a petrol tank, if there is nothing in there then energy has to be found elsewhere aka your fat stores.

Make sure you take water though.
