I just recently began to hit harder but...

Technique wise i began to hit harder on the heavybag but my power is felt back into my wrist, but my friend told me when he started out hitting the bag your hand/wrist get use to the accumulation. But i'm no recent beginner been training nearly a year so i'm wondering do i just continue the technique i'm doing that obviously generating more power or do i just take it easy it. Note that i primary hit the bag to develop power. It's question out of curiosity.

"A good clean punch should feel like you hit nothing" Mike Tyson

Have a softer filling for your bag and bigger gloves for your hands in the mean time.

Its good you have progressed, but remeber the rule of physics for every action is an equal and opposite reaction!

What you are feeling is the opposite reaction going back into your body and wrist. (hopefully you keep your wrist straight and hit with the 2 big knuckles and your bones are in straight alingment with the force/power)

The aim is to have your hand snap back before the equal and opposite reaction comes back to you so you leave all the power inside the bag/person and it feels like you hit nothing and it sparks them out fast.

So aim through the target but dont try to drive through! Snap it dont turn your snap into a push.

I try to get my right cross completely extended, that's done when I rotate my shoulder and wrist, just so I leave nothing behind on the bag and not pulling back otherwise I don't think I'm developing my power correctly. As soon I lift my heel off the floor I'd turn the ball of my foot shifting my weight to the front. my rear bent knee unwinds and then drive my thigh to sligshot hip and torso fast as possible.By then my right hand is already in slight contact on the bag while it's not fully extended, it's bent. At the same-time hip not fully rotated just a bit more to go including the ball of my foot.I Rotate all that is left and last part my shoulders rotating explosively which obviously twisting my wrist. And I get my results power coming back to me.once that's complete i unwind the punch quickly and reset back to position. So you see here I can't pull back early, for what I understand from my body I'm doing the sequences right I even here a nice thump occasionally. I'd understand if you meant it to prevent my hand from getting damage.

But I'm pretty stoked feeling this kinetic chain linked going on. I could vaguely remember when i use to punched with my right I never felt some sort of velocity or some force thrusting my right hand. But it is now. It's crazy.

Oh yeah that big description is done in the blink of an eye. i readily had break down my punches as I train and see where i was going took time. But it's much harder trying to describe it it through words lol

Maybe the bags give way too much so you cant just hit the surface of the bag with the very end of your punch and get the solid feeling maybe you have to go too deep into the bag to get an impact and maybe thats why?

Also do your hips definately procede your torso/waist? Do your hips spin before the torso and then the torso stretches and snaps back like elastic?

The advanced guys will know better on here than me.

You really need to see someone. All this internet questioning is not helping you .That is very clear from the constant stream of questions and especially the constant stream of questions about the hips. Clearly something is not right. your questions are very repetitive and it has got to beyond a joke and clearly you are not getting answers here that are giving you the results you want. I suggest you spend less energy and wasted time on the key board and get some 1 to 1 with someone who can really teach you.

Ive got my hips down now, im trying to help someone else lol not that im qualified to. The hips were the hardest thing physically that ive ever learnt but Ive got them down. I think it was just a case of wiring up the nervious system coupled with lazy hips to begin with.

(this isnt my thread for once lol)

Alex, From what you have written and have been writing I very much doubt you have a full understanding of punch mechanics just a better one. Lazy hips as you call it is really down to not knowing how to use the body and ground for leverage. Once you know how to use the ground for leverage and transmit the energy through the body the hip action takes care of it self because the hips do not move them selves they get moved by the legs which use the ground for leverage. I am certain if you called the guy I suggested that within 10 minutes you would have a far better understanding and realise the folly of constant questions on the forum.

Thanks Mongo I can tell you have some very valuable information/ top notch power mechanics to teach and the next time im in London I will come visit you guys!

                  I appreciate your concern mate!!!

Yea actually just by applying what you said regarding gripping the ground and drawing force from your grip of the ground and directing the force with the grip you just made my punches get even more possibly alot more powerful just from that one paragraph!

Im sold on your/your friends abilities!

Its amazing how much force you can get with the right knowlege! I presume you know about the dempsey dropping with gravity/ drop steps to gain power as well?

I just love the whole subject of power generation so much!

There is a lot more to it than just the know how. Even if you can understand things conceptually you can be sure you won't fully get it until you can feel it in your body. There are little tricks which really help like physically being held in certain positions where you then drive with your body to generate power with the coach holding providing resistance. The process of doing this will create a light bulb moment where you will imediately get it after that it is in you and your mind will be in the motion and you will instinctively improve but the penny has to drop first. Once you have gone through this you will realise the written word only helps so much. Car manuals are great for seasoned mechanics who know what they are looking at but near on useless for laymen who have no grease monkey experience.
